Services
We are pleased to offer Acupuncture, Herbology, Nutrition and Tui-Na (Acumassage) and consultative services. These services can be provided at our clinic or at your Vet's office. All services are provided in consultation with your Veterinarian. After consultation, Dr. West will lay out a proposed treatment plan and work with you to help your animal return to full health.
The following provides more information about the services we provide. Also check out our Frequently Asked Questions page for more information.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been practiced in both animals and human beings for thousands of years in Far East. Acupoints may be stimulated in a variety of ways. These techniques include dry needling, moxibustion, aqua-acupuncture, and electro-stimulation. Whatever tools are used, the goal is always the same: to restore the flow of Qi and allow homeostasis to return.
Each session may take 20 to 60 minutes. The number of Acupuncture treatments depends upon the nature, severity and duration of diseases. A single treatment may be enough for an acute condition. A series of 3 to 10 treatments can resolve many chronic problems. Some degenerative conditions may need monthly treatments over time.
Herbology
Sometimes the application of Chinese Herbal
Medicine may chosen as a support for the
acupuncture, or on occasion, in lieu of it. Herbs are frequently
selected to strengthen the immune system, and body
systems. Examples include herbs such as Qi (energy) tonic herbs that
tonify, herbs that regulate the blood, help to stop coughing, and others that
have a calming effect.
Nutrition
Nutrition is important in restoring and maintaining your animal's overall health. Therefore Dr. West will prefer to incorporate nutritional therapy as part of your animal's overall treatment program.
Tui-Na (Acumassage)
Tui-Na, the ancient Chinese method of chiropractic/medical manipulation enhances other methods used such as acupuncture, and can be taught to the pet owner to be done at home. This helps move energy past blocked points, and eases muscle tension, thereby offering comfort and an energy lift to the patient. Through the application of massage and manipulation techniques Tui-Na seeks to establish a more harmonious flow of Qi, allowing the body the naturally heal itself.
Consultative Services
We are currently working with a number of local Veterinarians in providing consultative services regarding alternative veterinary medical care to pets, and would be happy to consult with you and your vet.
